ABOUT OUR KARATE CLUB

Chalkstone Karate Club has been established since the early 1980's and welcomes prospective students of all ages from 5 years upwards and offers friendly and informal training by some of the most experienced instructors in the area.

 

The club is a member of SAFEchild and has accreditation for the policies and procedures it has in place for the safety and welfare of children. These include first aid and child protection.

 

Sensei (Senior Instructor)5th Dan Black belt Steve Hart is one of the most experienced instructors in the local area and has been a member of the club since 1987. Steve won his first black belt (shodan) in 1992, he has been teaching ever since and has run the club since 2008.

 

Steve is assisted by a number of other black belts, each with numerous years of Karate experience between them.

 

As we are a small club there is always a black belt member available to assist students in any way necessary.

Steve Hart

 Senior Instructor (Sensei)

5th Dan Black Belt


Steve Hart is Chalkstone karate clubs senior instructor (Sensei) and is responsible for all aspects of running the club. He started his karate training in 1987 and achieved his first dan (shodan) black belt in 1992. Spending all his time teaching meant that achieving second dan (Nidan) didn't happen until 2008, third dan (Sandan) in 2011, fourth dan (Yon dan) in 2016 and fifth dan (Go dan) in 2022

Steve regularly attends training sessions at the Toyakwai Karate Association with top instructors. Attends competitions and is a member of the EUKF England team who competed at the 2023 WUKF World championships. 

Steve is also an Association referee

In addition to his karate qualifications Steve has been fully DBS vetted and has training in child protection and first aid.

Lee McCormack

Instructor

3rd Dan Black Belt

Lee McCormack took up karate in 2001 under the KUGB. After 4 years of hard training 1st Dan was achieved in 2005. During this time Lee also trained with top instructors and competed at both local and national level. Taking time out for university, work and marriage for 6 years Lee returned to karate and joined Chalkstone Karate club in 2013. Following many hours of hard training second Dan was achieved in 2015. Third Dan was achieved in 2022

Lee is DBS vetted and first aid trained.

Darran Kerry

 

Instructor

3rd Dan Black Belt

Darran Kerry started his karate journey in 2005 when he was looking for a physical and mental challenge. He joined his local club in Sawston. He worked steadily through the Kyu grades and achieved his first dan in 2009.

Unfortunately the club at Sawston closed in 2014. Shortly after this Darran joined us and went on to his second Dan blackbelt in 2015. Darran achieved his third Dan in 2022

Gary Dadds

Instructor

3rd Dan Black Belt

Gary took up Karate in 2006 diligently training to achieve his first dan in 2011. keeping up his consistent training saw Gary achieve his second dan in 2013 and his third dan in 2016.

Following his retirement from work Gary does not live here in the UK full time. He attends the club when he is in the country.
